Gilbert is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) who completed his graduate education at Dominican University, where he received his Master’s in Social Work. Over the past ten years, he has had the privilege of working with individuals and families from primarily underserved communities in inpatient psychiatry and emergency medicine settings.

His areas of specialization include racial identity, men’s issues, family conflict, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and anger management. Gilbert enjoys working with clients and families from all different walks of life. His style incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing. He believes in providing a client-centered approach by mutually developing goals to help you overcome current and future challenges. Gilbert aims to help clients and families develop their therapeutic toolbox by exploring their feelings and emotions and helping individuals and families grow into the people they want to be. 

Gilbert D. Allen is the co-author of Brotherly Love, a best-selling book. He recently started a youth mentoring program and travels nationwide to speak to youth and adults about overcoming the effects of poverty, homelessness, and systemic racism by focusing on mentorship, mental health, mindfulness, and vulnerability. He is an Executive Leadership Coach who trains, mentors, and coaches aspiring clinicians and entrepreneurs in the school setting.
